Congratulations to Julie Griggs and Heather Hooks for receiving the 2020 Media Literacy Award from the National Council of Teachers of English. The two were honored for the resource website they created, EngagingEmpathy.org, which provides classroom educators with strategies and curricula for developing empathy in students through the use of art and literacy. Hooks was an ARTeacher Fellow from 2014-17, and Griggs participated from 2015-18. Said Griggs, “The ARTeacher Fellowship was the beginning of our journey with arts integration and empathy.” Receiving this award from the largest professional organization for English language arts teachers in the country is quite an honor! We’re immensely proud of our Fellows and happy to see them gain such well-deserved recognition.
